Good morning! Happy Friday! I’m not a morning person, but this was scheduled super late at night.

Some design, tech, creative industry, and fun stories I’ve come across

Design Doubloons

The world is filled with beautiful things

VINYL MOSAIC
At the West 4th subway stop the advertisements looked like mosaic tiles. I actually had to walk over and touch it to see what it was. Vinyl stickers. Degree paid attention to its surroundings and it paid off.

HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN HERE?
These signs feel like game pieces I’d find in my grandma’s basement. They’re beautifully retro and I hope they stick around.

WARLOCK TYPE
The wispy and spiky nature of this video game title is so cool. The arch of the W, the cut of the R, the pink halo.

BURGER BATHROOM LAMPS
These really cool lamps were mounted in the bathroom of a burger joint with surprisingly nice design.

This Week’s Videos

I promise I’m not a hater

UNITED FLAGS OF FASHION
Right now at Rockefeller Center they’re flying redesigned flags of all 50 states + 6 US territories. It was fun to see all the approaches, but I was surprised at the lackluster exhibition design while I was there. Luckily, their website is great.

WHY MOVIE CARTOONS LOOK SO DIFFERENT
Every time a TV show gets a movie deal the style changes. Bluey is just the latest one.

People are so cool

Letters of New York
A wonderful collection of New York City’s signage and lettering

Walk by Bilge
You can beat this game in under 30 minutes, but it’s meditative and charming and feels like an art project.

Source Material
A new series from Figma - It’s kind of like Design Doubloons mixed with Vogue’s Life in Looks

This Week’s File New

This week on File New: Started off with Disney collaborating with the NFL to make shirts for all 32 teams, Crocs is trying the costume mascot thing, and there’s a lawsuit over a $1.92 million painting of a picture of Oasis
